When you register you will automatically receive electronic calendar events via email. Future session dates are made available as we progress from term to term. Your tuition carries over until the beginning of the next trimester, so you have continuous access to all the online video courses.
What to Expect:
Live, online classes with Frau Warner via Brave Talk (video meeting software you can use in your browser). We interact and converse, and we use our highly interactive whiteboard. Each week, you can download and keep the whiteboards and they will also be stored in the Klassenbuch (Class Log) so you can refer back to them at any time. New clients are able to access all whiteboards from previous terms (which includes the A2 class and the A1 class prior to this one!).
We work through 1-2 chapters per 6-week session, so it's enough to be a good challenge without overwhelming you. We speak as much German as possible in-class, and dialect is welcome.
The core video courses are included in your tuition and are available to you as soon as your tuition payment has been made. You can take the "German Vocabulary Masterclass" and excel at learning vocabulary, "Lernen lernen," which will help you deconstruct your perfectionism in terms of learning German, and "How to Pronounce German."
Who else is in this A2 class?
Your fellow German learners are Germanophiles, Austrophiles, and Swissophiles, perfectionists, geeks, bookworms, and thinkers from different careers and walks of life. Some learn German as a hobby, while others travel in, live in, or want to work in a German-speaking country. Everyone is interested in the same thing: speaking German.
Which materials will we use?
We will use a combination of these:
- Really German Books: We use German language learning books from Germany. (Books are not included in your tuition.)
- studio [21] A2 das Deutschbuch ISBN 9783065205740
- studio [21] A2 Intensivtraining mit Hörtexten ISBN 9783065205757
- studio [21] A2 Glossary Deutsch - Englisch ISBN 9783065208451
- Materials made by Frau Warner.
- Real-life materials from German-language websites, brochures, and advertisements, too.
- There are NO grades, no tests (except for proficiency test prep), and no finals. (I promise.)
How much homework will I have each week?
You'll find out real quick that you have a somewhat flexible amount of homework each week. Some of it is required and some of it is optional--think "low, medium, high." That way you can adjust when life gets stressful, as well as when things are calm.
So who are you, Frau Warner?
Hallo, ich heiße Warner, Nicole Warner!
I first learned German when I was in my early 20’s. I had tried taking German in college and it was a DISASTER. I was constantly worried about the grade, the book we used was ridiculously confusing, and my teacher just couldn’t explain the concepts clearly.
Then in 2003 I moved to Germany and took a different kind of German course, one without a final grade, with books for learning German (not textbooks). I learned to speak German so well that when I speak German with native speakers, they think that I'm German. I'm not, although I do love a good bike commute. I now speak German at a near-native level and I've received the Zertifikat C2, the highest level of German speaking certification available. I’ve been teaching German in-person and online since 2010. I’m also certified to teach German as a Foreign Language and I teach it the way I was taught to speak it.
Frequently Asked Questions ~ Please read the following information thoroughly.
How do I know I'm ready for this class?
This class is for you if you've been working on topics in the A2 level and/or have completed the A1 level and need an A2 class. If you are unsure, please contact Frau Warner for a free, no-strings-attached assessment.
What supplies will I need?
What's included in the online lessons and courses?
How does Brave Talk work?
It's as easy as clicking a couple of links. First, click to visit https://talk.brave.com and then start a free meeting. Connect your audio and video, and away you go! You can even try it with up to 3 friends for free.
My accent is horrible. Can you help me?
Yes! We work on authentic pronunciation regularly so you can grow confidently in your speaking.
Can I get a refund if I quit the class?
There are no refunds should you quit the class. If you should quit the class, I reserve the right to bring another student into the class.
How many students will there be?
This class usually has 6-8 people in it. If a lot of people join, I'll cap it at 12.
Do I have to talk about myself in class?
If it's uncomfortable for you to talk about yourself, you are welcome to make up answers. The goal is to speak in German, so say what you can say. Das ist gut genug.
What if I miss an evening of class? Will class be recorded?
Das wäre schade. You'll still be able to download the whiteboards and use the group forum to ask questions. If you ask nicely, another student will likely meet with you to bring you up to speed. :) I do not record classes, it's a privacy and logistical nightmare.
Can we drink beer in class?
Yes, because it's culturally appropriate, as long as you are of legal drinking age in the jurisdiction where you are when class is in session, then it's OK by me. We'll stick to the German maxim Alles in Maßen. - everything in moderation.
Registration will open in August 2025!
Regular registration runs through September 11, 2025 and costs $630. Registration September 12 or later qualifies as late registration and costs $660.
