An Advent Calendar is a tradition which originated in Germany, and it began as a religious practice. Often now, an Advent Calendar is referred to as a "Christmas Countdown," and I, Frau Warner, make one every year for German learners! This is an Adventskalender for German learners!
Back by Popular Demand: German With Cats! - Practice Position ist Dativ with pictures of cats.
Who doesn't love learning German with cats?! In this year's Adventskalender you can learn to nail the Position ist Dativ rule by writing your own sentences. First you'll have a sample exercise like this one:
Connor - liegen - das Regal.
Beginners:
Beginners will simply learn the vocabulary and to conjugate the verbs, e.g.:
liegen: ich liege, du liegst, er/sie/es liegt, wir liegen, ihr liegt, sie/Sie liegen
das Regal = the shelf
Niveau A1:
A1-level learners will write very straight-forward sentences using the dative:
Connor liegt im Regal.
Niveau A2 und weiter:
Learners at levels A2-C1 will work on writing as descriptive a sentence as possible. You use what you know to write a sentence and enjoy the others' sentences!

Connor liegt im braunen Regal und schaut direkt in die Kamera.
Connor liegt im braunen Regal und seine Vorderpfoten liegen direkt nebeneinander.

Here's how straight-forward it is:
First, with paid tuition, you'll receive an email with your tuition confirmation information, an invoice, and the link to the course itself. You'll also have immediate access to the course itself: the instructions, the PDF resource for the dative prepositions, and this example exercise.
Second, we'll meet in a live, online, introductory class on November 30th, 2025 at 12 noon Central time. You'll receive a calendar event via email as soon as your tuition has gone through; we'll meet in Brave Talk, which works on every device. If you can't make it, spend extra time with the instructions and ask Frau Warner lots of questions in the comments.
Third, every day from December 1 - 25 you'll receive a reminder email to log in to access that day's exercise and to write your sentence. (The exercises will publish every day at 12:01 am US Central time.) There will be a special photo which appears on December 25th. Plus, you'll have through January 15th to finish the exercises, with a reminder on January 5th, January 10th, and January 13th if you'd like to finish up anything you haven't worked on yet.
