Planning ahead.

That's so German.

Here are 5 gift ideas whether you like to give bath & body products, German food items, or fancy Austrian wine glasses for Christmas.

Und jetzt...die Geschenkideen!

Geschenkidee Nummer 1: ein persönliches Puzzle

A personalized Jigsaw Puzzle from the folks at Ravensburger.

Ravensburger makes the BEST puzzles and board games and a personalized puzzle could be a great way to share a photo with a family member who lives a ways away. If you're not able to be together in person this Christmas, this might be your next best option.

P.S. There is no good German word for Puzzle, otherwise TRUST ME I would have used it. If you know of a good German word for puzzle, please tell me.

Geschenkidee Nummer 2: ein Brettspiel

Ravensburger also makes my favorite board game, which is das verrückte Labyrinth, simply called Labyrinth in the English edition. The board game itself is a labyrinth that changes with each turn. You can keep it simple for younger players or make it extra difficult for players who want a challenge.

Stock is currently low for this game, so it would be a good idea for you to order now.

I love this game so much I'll be making a video about it in the future. Es ist mein Lieblingsbrettspiel! It's my favorite board game!

Das ist ja toll! There's a 3D version...totally new to me. You know what's going on my Christmas list.

Geschenk Nummer 3: Wein aus Deutschland oder Österreich

One of the best surprises I've run across this year was the German Wine selection and the Austrian wine selection at Wine.com (Affiliate links). With 47 German wines and 34 Austrian wines, there are wines for every budget and for every size wine rack. Here are three German wines and one Austrian wine to get you started.

Riesling from the Mosel

Rosé from the Pfalz

Pinot Noir from Baden

Grüner Veltliner from Austria

Wine.com also carries Riedel stemware, decanters, and other glasses. Riedel is an Austrian crystal maker established in 1756 and is now in its 11th generation. Check out these beauties by clicking the photo:

Geschenk Nummer 4: Produkte aus der Smallflower Apotheke

Smallflower.com LogoSmallflower is perhaps one of the best places to shop for German and European bath products that you haven't even heard of yet. (Affiliate link)

I heard of Smallflower about 10 years ago when I began teaching German, but now that I have been on their email list for a while, I can say they regularly have fantastic bath and body products and they are the real deal.Smallflower.com European Health Products

Here's a list of a few of the German products they have, just to give you an idea of where to start shopping:

  • Niveau cream - to moisturize and soothe your dry, winter skin
  • Klosterfrau Melissengeist - to calm your nerves and take care of many other ailments
  • Underberg Bitters - for whatever ails you ;)
  • TABAC beard wax - Wenn schon, denn schon!
  • Persil detergent - There is no other detergent. Only Persil.
  • Hiddensee Sanddorn Honig Seife - because the Book Club Book we read two years ago took place on Hiddensee and we learned about Sanddorn.

Geschenk Nummer 5: GermanFoodBox Subscription

If I had saved the best for last, every single one of these gift ideas would be #5 on the list!

The  German Food Box is a subscription box with authentic, German items in each box (Affiliate link). You can start or pause your subscription at any time, and the individual products are different each month.

You can even gift a 3-, 6- or 12-month subscription that automatically ends when the time is up.
